Welcome to issue #69 of the Original Comic Art Tips Newsletter! A quiet week, some interesting auction results and some nice pieces on eBay.
Results, Ebay: An Alan Davis Namor cover went for $2,500, the Spiderman page by Erik Larsen for $3,500, the Swamp Thing page by Steve Bissette for $1,600, the Springer/Romita Spiderman splash for $1,200 and a Ron Lim Warlock splash for $2,000. A happy collector bought a Batman original by Don Newton for $280.
Heritage Sunday: You probably all noticed that last week I presented a Prince Valiant print as original comic art… I was probably half-sleeping in front of the computer late at night. the Wayne Boring Superman strips sold, to no surprise, for $2,200 and $1,900, the Star Wars cover by Mark Schultz went for $1,700, the Hostess Ad by Curt Swan for $1,400, a Jack Jaxon underground splash for $1,800, the George Herriman cartoon for $2,000.
A very nice Conan/Red Sonja commission by Ernie Chan went for only $150, the Chris Bachalo Doc Strange commission for $100, the Dennis the Menace illustration for $300, a nice Impulse page by Ethan Van Sciver for $75.
Welcome to #68 of Original Comic Art Tips! lots of great original art to see this week. We’ll start, as usual, with some auction results.
Ebay: The Ghost Rider #50 cover by Ron Garney made $1,500, a Conan page by John Buscema went for $560, the JLA by Howard Porter for $500, the Alley Oop daily for $500 and the Rusty Riley daily for $450. Mike Allred pages are rare to see on an auction, the Avengers pages all went for about $250. Happy collectors bought the Rafael Kayanan Conan half-splash for only $250, the Next Men page by John Byrne for $180, the all-Flash page by Don Heck for $300, a nice Ed Benes page for $350. A rare occurrence: a Jim Lee sketch went unsold at $300.
Heritage Sunday: the John Buscema Avengers page was sold for $4,300, the Space 1999 splash by John Byrne went for $2,300, high for Charlton work, the Captain America page by Gene Colan went for $3,100, the Namor for $2,300 and the Daredevil original for $1,500. The Curt Swan Ad went for $1,900, the Action Comics splash for only $780. The Power Man page by George Tuska went for only $400 and a New Titans by George Perez for $370.
eBay. Most of the art for sale last week went unsold, or sold for the starting price, not much to see. The Jim Lee action figures with sketch went for less than the $3,000 buy it now price usually found on eBay. Batman went for $840 and Harley for $700. The remarked Batman print sold for $500. This Batman quickie by Lee quickly sold yesterday with a BIN price of $400. Same thing with this Joker on a blank cover for $500. A DC Trinity page by Clay Mann went for $900, the Avengers cover by Ed McGuinness went unsold at $2k and is now for sale again at $1,8k or best offer.
Heritage Sunday: the Paul Gulacy DC cover made $2,100, the Twinkies ad by Curt Swan $2,000, the Connie original Sunday art by Frank Godwin $4,500, the beautiful Robin Malone Sunday less than $500 and the Doonesbury daily $1,000. (altro…)
